Celepsa awards Minera Ares a certificate for its use of renewable energy in its operations

• Minera Ares, a subsidiary of the Hochschild Group, reaffirms its commitment to sustainability by sourcing all of its energy from Celepsa.

Lima, November 22nd, 2021 - Celepsa delivered its Renewable Energy Certificate to the company Minera Ares, part of the Hochschild group, with the goal of contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and aligning with the national goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. The certificate recognizes that one hundred percent of the energy delivered is of hydroelectric origin.

Shared Goals

Minera Ares joins the challenge of accelerating Peru's decarbonization with Celepsa, the first generator to certify 100% of its energy as renewable by AENOR, and acquired a volume of energy from hydro sources corresponding to 140,960,511 kWh during 2020.

"The delivery of the Celepsa certificate is a critical component in achieving the company's goal of responsible and innovative mining committed to a better world. As a result, we have been working on a decarbonization plan for Peru, which includes addressing the country's climate change situation. Having Celepsa as a strategic partner will assist us in achieving these proposed goals, as well as our overall quest for a better world," said David Vexler, Hochschild Mining Peru's corporate environmental manager.

Working together for a more inclusive and sustainable country

Eduardo Herrera, Celepsa's general manager, stated that the company's goal for this year is to accelerate the country's decarbonization.

"In this regard, we request that an international organization such as AENOR certify that 100% of the energy we produce is of renewable origin. As a result, we are committed to renewable energy with our partners through our Triple C label, Celepsa Carbon Negative Commitment. Today, I am pleased to present Minera Ares with a certificate demonstrating that in 2020, its entire energy consumption was produced using renewable energy sources, proving their commitment to sustainability and their pursuit of the same goal as us: a carbon-neutral Peru by 2050."

The message, according to Jose Palma, Vice President Legal and Corporate Affairs of Hochschild Mining Peru, is very clear: the only way to continue operating, regardless of the company's line of business, is in a sustainable manner.

"We seek to have an increasingly inclusive and sustainable country and this goal can only be achieved if we work in a coordinated manner between the State, civil society and the company".

Celepsa is the first Peruvian generator to certify 100% of its electricity as renewable. This accreditation, issued by the international corporation AENOR, is the first milestone in the company's core goal of accelerating Peru's decarbonization through a shared commitment with its customers and stakeholders.

The delivery of the Renewable Energy Certificate to the enterprise Minera Ares was followed by the Triple C Label - Celepsa Negative Carbon Commitment - a distinguishing feature that strives to organize actors from the private sector, the state, and civil society around its objective.

Celepsa is now making the Triple C open to enterprises and organizations of all sizes that are committed to climate change and to joining all efforts to secure Peru's carbon neutrality by 2050.
