Celepsa wins Los Boscares 2021 award for its reforestation and forest restoration work

• In this first edition of Los Boscares Peru, publicly available data from 169 Peruvian companies was analyzed, and projects from 20 companies were chosen and nominated in six categories.
• The finalist companies' initiatives were evaluated by a jury consisting of representatives from the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM), the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR), and the civil associations AIDER and Reforestamos.

Lima, December 13th, 2021 – Los Boscares Peru, a project that promotes the conservation of forest ecosystems through the recognition of business practices that seek to maintain the country's forests, was held for the first time by Reforestamos Mexico and AIDER.

Celepsa won the award in the category of Reforestation and Forest Restoration for its commitment to the conservation of the ecosystems of the Nor Yauyos Cochas Landscape Reserve through the Board of Trustees, which promotes integrated water resource management in Lima.

The reserve is regarded as one of the most important water sources in the region because it contains 80% of the department of Lima's snow-capped mountains, 62% of the lagoons, and 66% of the main wetlands.

As a result, Celepsa, committed to sustainability, promotes the conservation of wetlands and grasslands, sources of water storage that help increase the area's vegetation, extend the range of moisture, and allow the regulation of carbon emissions.

Similarly, the Patronato of Nor Yauyos Cochas Reserve encourages the restoration and development of natural storage infrastructures, cultural hydraulic infrastructures, and the implementation of green-gray infrastructures that contribute to the restoration, conservation, and protection of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and the services they provide.

2021 Boscares

The Boscares 2021 nominated 20 finalists in six categories (Forest Conservation, Zero Deforestation Supply Chains, Forests and Climate Change, Promoting Sustainable Forest Management, Sustainable Forest Enterprises, and Reforestation and Forest Restoration), with Celepsa winning in the latter.

During the virtual ceremony, Levin Rojas, executive director of the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR), emphasized the importance of recognizing companies that develop forestry and environmental issues that help to improve our ecosystems; forest and wildlife heritage in which water resources are captured. The goal of these awards is to raise awareness so that more businesses will take action to protect the environment and build business models around it.

"We celebrate the work of the companies that carry out actions in support of Peruvian forests, as well as the efforts of all of them in disseminating and sharing these experiences and advances with their various audiences, because transparency of information allows us to know the motivations and intentions of the private sector when developing these types of projects; knowing the private sector in a more empathetic way allows us to develop better alliances."
