Celepsa's donation of an oxygen plant and other resources benefits about 267,000 people in Cañete and Yauyos
Lima, June 23rd, 2021 – Celepsa has supplied a medical oxygen plant, 18 oxygen balloons, over 4,700 masks, 1,100 cleaning kits for families, informational material, and rapid covid-19 detection tests to the Cañete-Yauyos Health Network employees to date in the region of the effect of El Platanal Hydroelectric Power Station. In this way, the corporation demonstrates its commitment to addressing the immediate needs of thousands of families in Lima's Cañete and Yauyos regions as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Medical oxygen plant donation
The Yauyos Prelature was blessed today for the medical oxygen plant supplied by Celepsa, which has a capacity of 20 cubic meters per hour, or around 50 cylinders each day at a social cost of S/. 60 per unit.
Oxygen cylinders and accessories for hospitals
Furthermore, 18 3.4 cubic meter cylinders and accessories were provided to establish health facilities in Yauyos, Tanta, Catahuasi, and Pacaran, donations that have already benefited over 267,000 people. Celepsa also made additional contributions as part of the Cooperation Agreement inked with the Regional Government of Lima for the implementation of prophylactic efforts and population support to reduce the spread of covid-19 in these areas.
Monsignor Ricardo Garca, Bishop of Cañete-Yauyos, officiated at the blessing ceremony and stated that "It is a day to thank God because, after much hard work, we have completed our obligation to the people of Cañete, Yauyos, and Huarochiri. This project was completed with a lot of work and effort, thanks to the population's initiative, the support of various groups such as the association Caminemos Juntos for Cañete and Yauyos, with whom we collaborated closely, and the important collaboration of the private sector through Celepsa and the Wiese Foundation, each of which donated an oxygen plant."
"We are overjoyed that the plant is now a reality. So far, it has benefited over 50 families, and we will continue to successfully serve people who come to need oxygen 24 hours a day, seven days a week." Added the Bishop.
Social responsibility
This donation indicates that "it is possible to work in collaboration with the State, private sector, civil organizations, and the Church to materialize an initiative such as this", stated Celepsa's General Manager, Eduardo Herrera.
He went on to say "This is the second plant donated by the Unacem Group, which is also contributing two more plants in Lima. Our commitment is validated in this way: whenever there is a need, we will respond because it is the proper thing to do ".
Herrera recalled that Celepsa arrived ten years ago in the Cañete river basin and that since then it has developed a series of social projects together with the communities of Tanta, Yauyos Catahuasi, Pacaran, and Cañete, "an example that it is possible for the communities, with private enterprise, to develop wellbeing".
The UNACEM Group
It is worth noting that this oxygen plant is the second of four that Grupo UNACEM is contributing through its subsidiaries in the regions of influence where it operates: cement plants UNACEM, Celepsa, and concrete plant UNICON.
"Since last year, the UNACEM Group's companies have been working together to combat the situation caused by covid-19. We feel obligated to join and supplement the contributions of the private sector to provide 2,400 m3 of medical oxygen per day to those in most need "said Pedro Lerner, Group Corporate General Manager.
Collaborative Effort
The Prelature of Yauyos, an ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Catholic Church in Peru based in San Vicente de Cañete and part of the Lima ecclesiastical province, accepts responsibility for the use of this donation and has trained a team of six people and an administrator to run the plant, which is already operational and has served more than 50 families in San Vicente de Cañete.
According to Father Miguel Chumpitaz, Vicar General of the Prelature of Yauyos, each person -accredited with a medical prescription and ID of the sick family member- will be able to refill three oxygen cylinders with a purity of 93-94% and a capacity of ten cubic meters, though they are only filled to 60% for safety reasons.
The Celepsa-donated generator has been installed near kilometer 139 of the old Panamericana Sur, where it is available Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 to 6 p.m. From 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., a phone number (982 356 397) has been established to respond to emergencies.
