Energy Day: 3 recommendations for saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions
Lima, February 2023 - For more than 70 years, every February 14, Energy Day has been celebrated with the aim of reflecting and raising awareness about the importance that human beings give to energy.
"This date is key to raise awareness of the various energy sources available, the use of energy we have in our homes and businesses, and how saving energy can have a positive impact on the environment. Reducing CO2 emissions is essential to face the climate emergency we are experiencing as a planet," said Carlos Túpac Yupanqui, commercial assistant manager of Celepsa, a company belonging to the UNACEM Group.
Against this backdrop, Celepsa's commercial assistant manager offers three tips to save energy within companies and reduce CO2 emissions.
Promote a culture of energy saving
To save energy within companies, it is not only essential aspects such as keeping electrical appliances unplugged or using more natural light to illuminate spaces in the office, but promote a culture of energy awareness. It is important that workers develop knowledge about energy use and its implications for the environment through workshops, seminars and practical energy-saving activities. It is also important to promote the understanding of energy in its different forms, the selection of efficient appliances and the costs that must be evaluated for decision making.
Incorporate energy storage systems
Because it is not only about savings, but also about energy management, energy storage systems are a solution that allows, in addition to savings, responsible energy management, since they reduce the carbon footprint within operations, generating cost savings. The key to electrical energy management is its flexibility and countless applications. Thus, energy can be accumulated at off-peak times for use at convenient times, such as charging electric vehicles or powering heating systems.
Producing your own energy
More and more individuals, communities and companies are using various technologies, especially renewable energies, to produce their own electricity. By doing so, they are able to mitigate the high costs of electricity from the grid and reduce the carbon footprint of their activities. Among the benefits of using renewable energies is the inexhaustibility of the resource with which the energy is produced, since they come from natural sources such as air, sun and water.
"The idea of opting for more environmentally responsible energy options is due to the climate emergency we are experiencing. We are firmly committed to accelerate decarbonization in the country, but we know that it is a joint effort between private enterprise, civil society and public entities. Therefore, we invite all actors in communities, companies and institutions to join this cause for the welfare of the planet and humanity", concluded Túpac Yupanqui.
