Second maintenance of the Capillucas Reservoir 2019
Wednesday, March 27th, 2019 - San Juanito Today, March 27th, Celepsa is performing the second maintenance of the Capillucas Reservoir 2019. As is well known, the maintenance is part of the activities that are carried out during the rainy season and are required to produce energy at El Platanal Hydroelectric Power Plant; the event consists primarily of the gradual emptying of the reservoir to achieve the natural release of silt, sand, and organic material transported by the Cañete River from the upper and middle parts of the basin and retained over the previous year.
In this regard, the following are the characteristics of Capillucas Reservoir maintenance:
- The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which governs the operation of the El Platanal hydropower facility, authorizes maintenance of the Capillucas reservoir.
- Maintenance occurs early in the morning and might last up to 6 hours. Due to the path from Capillucas (kilometer 95 of the Cañete - Lunahuana - Yauyos - Huancayo highway) to the river mouth, it will be noticed in the morning in the ecological flow zone and in the afternoon and evening across the basin.
- An increase in turbidity and a change in odor in river water are expected as a result of the repair and for a few hours.
- Celepsa will continue to conduct controls before, during, and after this second activity to protect the aquatic life in the Cañete River. The aquatic life in the Cañete River was protected, according to hydrobiological monitoring of the most recent maintenance efforts.
- The Cañete basin benefits from water from the Paucarcocha reservoir, which catches rainfall and retains 70 million m3 that would otherwise be lost to the sea, making it useable during low water levels. At the same time, it prevents flooding by cushioning the river's potential catastrophic inundation.
Lastly, Celepsa emphasizes its commitment to carrying out its operations with the utmost rigor and expresses gratitude for the consideration given to the information supplied.
