We obtained the Third Carbon Footprint Star Peru from MINAM
Celepsa, a company of the UNACEM Group, has been recognized for having obtained the Third Star of the Footprint Program of the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM) for its Marañón Hydroelectric Power Plant. This achievement means that the company has evidenced a reduction in its carbon footprint, reflecting its commitment to the reduction of emissions and the sustainable development of the country.
The company participated in the event, organized by MINAM, together with 38 public and private organizations that voluntarily manage their greenhouse gas emissions and achieved the third and fourth star. The Minister of the Environment, Juan Carlos Castro Vargas, led the official ceremony where the State recognized the efforts of the organizations for the 2022 period.
Since its inception, Celepsa has taken a leading role in the fight against climate change, not only generating clean and sustainable energy, but also investing in the conservation of key ecosystems and betting on clean technologies and energy efficiency and circular economy initiatives. Celepsa also has carbon neutrality certification for its two hydroelectric generation plants, granted by the international certifier AENOR.
It should be noted that this recognition by MINAM is only obtained by those companies that have calculated and verified their greenhouse gas emissions for at least two consecutive years, and have achieved a reduction of these emissions.
The Ministry of the Environment's Carbon Footprint Peru program is an official government tool that recognizes public and private organizations that have successfully managed their greenhouse gas emissions. The program is supported by the Project for the Implementation of Peru's Climate Goals, implemented by MINAM and with technical assistance from the United Nations Development Program, as part of the International Climate Protection Initiative.
