World Energy Saving Day: 4 tips to save energy at home

CelepsaCelepsa

Every year on October 21, World Energy Saving Day is celebrated as a reminder of the importance of being aware of our energy consumption and adopting sustainable practices in our daily lives. Energy is a valuable and limited resource, and each of us has an important role to play in reducing our carbon footprint and preserving the planet.

"Just as companies have the responsibility to contribute to the reduction of the carbon footprint by adopting sustainable operations, each person also has a commitment to the planet," says Lorena Gaviño, Assistant Manager of Sustainability of Celepsa, a company of the UNACEM group and specialists in the generation and marketing of energy, who provides 4 tips to save energy from home:

1. Be energy efficient: The use of efficient lighting is one of the easiest ways to save energy. Replace incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs, which consume less energy and last much longer. Also, be sure to turn off lights when you don't need them and take advantage of natural light whenever possible.

2. Use energy-efficient appliances: Appliances account for a significant portion of your energy consumption at home. Opt for appliances with the energy efficiency label, such as class A or A+, which are more efficient in terms of energy consumption. Also, unplug appliances when you are not using them and turn cell phones and computers to energy-saving mode when they are idle.

3. Turn off the lights: Lighting is responsible for about 20% of electricity consumption in a middle-class home, according to Osinergmin. It sounds repetitive, but getting into the habit of turning off the lights when leaving a room represents an important impact for the planet.

4. Ventilate your spaces: Improving your home's insulation can significantly reduce heat loss in winter and excess heat in summer. Make sure your windows and doors are properly sealed and consider adding insulation to walls and ceilings if necessary. Also, ventilate your home naturally by opening windows rather than relying on mechanical ventilation systems.

On World Energy Saving Day, Celepsa reminds us that every small action counts when it comes to protecting the environment and saving valuable resources. By adopting these tips and encouraging a more sustainable lifestyle at home, we not only reduce our bills, but also contribute to the fight against climate change and the conservation of our planet. A small gesture today can make a big difference tomorrow.
